FAQs

How are XL Bullies priced?

We used XL Bullies’ health records, vet consultations, and physiological traits to price them as accurately as we could relative to other breeds. Our guiding principle has been to price Bullies fairly based on the level of health risk they present, and not to price them higher just because they are “banned”.
Due to XL Bullies’s build, they’re more prone to developing certain conditions that they might need support with as they grow older (such as hip dysplasia and patellar luxation). XL Bullies are priced similarly to mastiff-type breeds for this reason. Examples of other highly-priced breeds include Irish Wolfhounds (who are even larger), and French Bulldogs (who are sadly even more prone to illnesses like BOAS).
Of course, other characteristics specific to your individual dog (especially age) also play a significant role in pricing.
Pricing is an area we constantly look to improve as we get more information. We hope our pricing will develop to suit you and your pet’s needs better in the long term.
Whatever your decision is, we respect it. You know what's best for you, your finances, and your beloved pet.

Why will Napo insure XL Bullies?

To quote our founder Jean-Philippe Doumeng:
“Every pet deserves healthcare, no matter the breed. Napo is run by pet parents, for pet parents, and we've spoken to many who’ve struggled getting access to healthcare even after going through the rigorous ban exemption process. We’ve been passionate about fixing this for a long time.”
Launching cover for XL Bullies is a step towards our mission to cover every pet, no matter their breed.

Is there anything needed to insure an XL Bully?

We can insure your XL Bully as long as they have a certificate of exemption, and you comply with its requirements. You can upload the certificate when you get a quote with us.

What’s included in your cover for XL Bullies?

Our exempt dog cover includes everything that our normal dog insurance policy has, except for third party liability cover.
This includes access to Puppy Academy, with online classes and support from accredited, force-free trainers.
You should already have third party liability cover, because you need it to get a certificate of exemption for your dog.
Like all our dog insurance policies, we aren’t able to cover any pre-existing conditions your dog’s had in the last 24 months.

Why do you still have excluded breeds?

Our aim is to be able to cover every dog, no matter their breed. We’re working towards this, and being able to cover XL Bullies is a step on that journey.

Here’s our current list of excluded breeds. We’ll update it whenever we make any changes.
